12/1/2011 - Force Reconnaissance Marines with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit tour the US Naval Ship Dahl prior to conducting vessel board, search and seizure training

B-roll of how Marines and Sailors with the Force Reconnaissance Platoon of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit conduct a vessel board, search and seizure of the U.S. Naval Ship Dahl in preparation for an upcoming deployment. Because the Dahl is not a war ship, the training provided a unique opportunity to familiarize the unit with the layout of transport and merchant vessels.The training is valuable because Force Recon Marines provide the only VBSS capability in the Asia Pacific. Marines and Sailors with the 31st MEU’s Maritime Raid Force, consisting of Force Reconnaissance Marines, Amphibious Reconnaissance Marines, and a security element from Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, conduct a series of urban assaults as part of the Realistic Urban Training Exercise. The training is created and monitored by III Marine Expeditionary Force’s Special Operations Training Group, to prepare the Marines for contingency operations as part of the MEU.

Marines with 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit’s Force Reconnaissance Platoon, conduct a simulated raid at a Virginia Beach police training facility in Creeds, Va., Jan. 17, 2012. The reconnaissance Marines executed the raid with Security Platoon, Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 24th MEU, as part of the 24th MEU’s Realistic Urban Training (RUT) exercise scheduled Jan. 5-20, which focuses on preparing for the various operations they may conduct while deployed. Marines with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit's maritime raid force conduct an enhanced visit board search and seizure training at a U.S. Coast Guard facility here April 7. Loud music is played within the facility to increase stress levels in the Marines and intensify the training. The MRF is the maritime interdiction element for the MEU, currently deployed as part of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group (MKIARG). The group is a U.S. Central Command theater reserve force. The group is also providing support for maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
